Jason

Last night I found out Jason Presley of LJ Urban had died. I don’t think I can really go on to write some sort of elegiac essay about him as I’m sort of still processing, but in the meantime, Levi Benkert has written a post on LJ Urban’s blog more eloquently than I ever could.

I only knew Jason for a few short years while working for LJ Urban, so I guess my own little contribution to the memory of Jason is the logo we created together. Its design was directly inspired by Jason’s personality and belief system, and the way he infused those into his work.

The iconic element of the logo is the Qian, from the Chinese text The Book of Changes.

This icon is associated with Creative Force & Strength, Heaven, and Fatherhood, all of which represent Jason (and the company he helped create) in my mind. Whenever I saw Jason with his family, they were simply radiant, I hope they will come through this okay.
